Howdy!
Preparations continue for the 03 NTX APRS Workshop. The
workshop will be held on Saturday, September 6, at the Conference
Center at the University of Texas at Dallas. The workshop will
a totally free event sponsored by the Comet Amateur Radio Club
and the Plano Amateur Radio Klub. Up to date info will be available
on www.n5oom.org.
The University of Texas at Dallas is in Richardson, TX. Directions
to the university are available at:
http://www.utdallas.edu/directionstoutd-index.html
A campus map showing the Conference Center is available at:
http://www.utdallas.edu/campusmap.html (the Conference Center is
building 15 on the map).
PARKING
Because this is a University, parking is usually strictly controlled.
However, we're told that there will be only minimum parking
restrictions on Saturday. There are parking lots to the west and
south of the Conference Center. If we find out any different, we'll
send out another email with parking instructions.
PLEASE RSVP!!!
Though there is no charge, your advanced registrations are
appreciated. At this time we have 94 advance registrations. If you
or someone you know is planning to attend, please send an RSVP
to [email protected]. If you are receiving this email directly, then you
are already registered, and thanks!
WHAT TO BRING
Because this is a free event, there's no guarantee that we will have
paper copies of notes. Therefore, it will be beneficial for you to
download copies of the presentations you want to attend. Copies of
all available presentations will be available on www.n5oom.org by
Thursday, September 4. In addition, you may want to bring you
own paper, pens and pencils.
EVENT FEATURES
Several APRS software vendors are offering price breaks for
software registered during this event, thanks to Ken N5EQT. Also,
Ken has obtained a few copies as door prizes! We'll have a station
standing by to do these registrations at the Registration Desk if you
are interested in purchasing any software.
We'll also have a few TinyTrak units available for sale, thanks to
Tony
W5ADC!
OPEN WORKSHOP
We will have an open workshop open for attendees to bring in their
APRS equipment to be worked on by local experts. Thanks to
Barry, WA5KXX for managing the workshop. If you know that you
will be bringing some equipment to be worked on, please send a
mail describing your problem to [email protected].
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
If you are willing to share your APRS, PC, radio, power or wiring
expertise with others, the workshop needs you! If you are willing to
help out, please send a msg to Barry Goldblatt WA5KXX at
[email protected]
In addition, we need volunteers to spend short periods of time
manning the registration desk. If you are interested in helping out
with the registration desk, please send a msg to Robert Davis
AD5NR at [email protected]
I'm looking for Public Service Event coordinators, net controllers
and county emergency coordinators who have worked with APRS to
sit in on the PSE & Emergency Events panel. If you have done this
and are interested, please email [email protected].
It looks as if we'll have some open presentation slots. If you have
an APRS related presentation you'd like to share, please email
[email protected].
