All,
First off, thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help with the Special
Olympics this Saturday, April 12.
I just received word today that the hours have changed slightly at the request
of the Special Olympics coordinator. The event is now scheduled from 9AM to
4PM. You should plan to be there by 0830 (first shift) and 1200 (second
shift) to be ready to go on position at 0830 and 1200.
We realize that many may have signed on with other plans based on the original
hours (8-3) that were specified. I understand if you can not stay for the
entire event. Please let me know ASAP if you are not able to attend for your
shift due to this change.
This is the lineup based on your responses to a shift preference:
First Shift 0830-1230
-----------
Jerry Buxton event liason and net control, medical
Shura Buxton start/finish line
Joel Neill turnaround point
Bob Overton TSOC intersection
Matt Muehlen* medical
Jeremy Northum* Credit Union
Matt Muelhen* Lou Menk
Second Shift 1200-1600
------------
David Johnson event liason and net control
Fred Muehlen start/finish line
Matt Muehlen turnaround point
Denise Johnson TSOC intersection
Jeremy Northum medical
Fred, Matt and Jeremy have all signed up for all day. I have made tentative
placements for you for first shift (marked with asterisk) if you want to show
up but we will need you for sure on the second shift. If you wish to be there
for the entire event we can sure use you, the above coverage is the minimum
required. We can really use a full-time person with the medical staff, and
the more people on the course the better. Please advise if you still plan to
be there all day, or will be working the second shift as shown above.
We will have a special t-shirt for everyone, please check with me when you
arrive to receive your shirt. These shirts are unique for the ham operators
and required to be worn by us for identification.
Net will be directed by net control on the club frequency 147.42 MHz simplex.
One of the race events starts the participants at the far end, with the timers
at the finish line. In the past we have provided comms to relay the start to
the timers for time coordination. In order to accomplish this without
interference to the regular net coverage, we will use 147.52 MHz simplex for
this purpose.
Be sure to have your HT with a full charge and a backup battery. Best to
bring a chair, water, snacks too. If you plan to stay all day, bring a lunch
or plan on running to get something to bring back as I don't believe the event
will be providing us with anything for lunch.
I will have maps and a handout with special information for Special Olympics
volunteers.
The BNSF Campus is located on Western Center Blvd between I-35W and FM156
(Western Center is just north of I-820). Enter via Burlington Blvd which is
the second entrance as you go west, the first if you are going east. Park in
the parking garage. Talk-in on the net frequency.
See you there!
Jerry
