[TCARC-NTx] Newspaper article...and some history...

I hope everyone got to see the newspaper article. I haven't seen one yet
that was perfectly accurate, but this one was pretty good. I wish that they
could have interviewed more than 4 club members, but I guess that would make
the article too long.

One point that is inaccurate I want to point out to any new members to the
group. The article attributes me as the founder of the club. I didn't tell
them that, and it's not quite accurate. So the members can understand how
the club started, here's how it went.

I was the first one that took an action to get a club started, and that was
nothing more than broadcast a message during the popular 34/94 swap net in
1994 suggesting that if anyone in the Tri-County area wanted to get a club
started, to contact me.

Only one person contacted me. John Patterson KC5IQN. He and I spoke on the
telephone after that net, and agreed to take a week to explore the interest
among other radio operators. It turned out that several people had the idea
too, and had been turning it over. One person said that an attempt to form
a club in the area had been made a few years before, and it didn't take off
for some reason.

But the following Saturday in Sep 1994, a group of 22 amateur radio
operators met in John's home and agreed to form the club. These are the
founders of the club, and I am one of them. Their names are on the club
brochure.

Since then the club has grown and flourished with many new members of like
minds and interests. I'm glad to be one of the first instigators of a club
that is turning out to be a fine fellowship of people dedicated to the
purposes of the Amateur Radio Service and to our communities in the
Tri-County local area.
