Subject: Ham Radio Operators helping out
SMALL TOWN SAYS IT'S BEING IGNORED
When an ice storm raked through the tiny town of Hennessey, Okla., =
residents knew that it would take a while before things could be cleaned =
up and electricity restored. Now, according to NewsOK online, it's been =
two weeks since the last storm and more than 2,000 people -- most of the =
population of the city -- are still without lights.
The publication says that icy roads not only brought down power =
lines, but the resultant loss of "juice" also turned off cellular =
towers, nearly isolating many in the region.
Ham radio operators have stepped in to keep vital communications =
links open. Meanwhile, the mayor of the city, Tim Riddle, says he is =
"frustrated and aggravated" that the state's governor, Frank Keating, =
and state officials are ignoring the city. Ironically, state officials =
sent storm experts to the region. They drove right through Hennessey ... =
but never stopped.
