All,

You have been identified as a volunteer for this years' Area 11 Special
Olympics Cycling Event which is being co-sponsored by Special Olympics, =
BNSF
and The Ft Worth Campus Diversity Council.=FF We will be having a short =
briefing
for all volunteers on Tuesday, April 23rd, 1630hrs in the NOC Viewing Ga=
llery.

Terry Cook, the Special Olympics facilitator will be in attendance to di=
scuss
how we, as volunteers, should interact with the Special Olympic athletes=
.=FF We
will also outline the race agenda and other logistical issues associated=
 with
the event.

We currently have approximately 80 volunteers registered.=FF Specific ta=
sks will
be assigned to each volunteer and we will identify the lead for each tas=
k
group in advance of the event.=FF If you are unable to attend this brief=
ing, we
will be providing/publishing task assignments in outlook mail on Wednesd=
ay,
April 24th.=FF Your event T-shirts will be made available on Thursday an=
d Friday
preceding the event.=FF Next week in FYI there will be a request for add=
itional
volunteers to participate as cheerleaders along the cycling route.=FF We=
 will
not be collecting the names or counting the number of cheerleaders, just=

simply asking them to show up and cheer.=FF So, if you have family membe=
rs or
friends you want to bring along on event day, by all means do so.

Volunteers will be expected to be on-site at 0730hrs on Saturday Morning=
 April
27th.=FF The races will conclude around noon and are followed by a 1 hou=
r awards
celebration in the NOC Viewing Gallery.=FF We consider the awards ceremo=
ny to be
optional for our volunteers, but we recommend that you attend.=FF It is =
a very
energetic, emotional and heart warming experience for everyone associate=
d with
the event.

Our particular tasks will fall into the following categories:

TOUR GUIDES (9) Lead- Suzanne Sanchez:=FF These volunteers will be assis=
ting
with a walkthrough tour of the business cars.=FF Two at the entry steps,=
 two at
the exit steps and two inside the business cars.=FF We will have two gui=
des at
the NOC courtyard double door entrance and one guide at the top of the s=
teps

Gallery.

TIMERS (30) : Will work stop watches at start and finish lines on course=
.=FF
Each timer will be assigned to time a designated Special Olympics Athlet=
e and
then report the time to the Special Olympics Bookkeeper.

PRESENTERS (4) :=FF Will present trophies and ribbons at closing ceremon=
ies in
Viewing Gallery.=FF These volunteers will not be required to speak to th=
e
audience, just walk into the audience and hang ribbons on the athletes a=
s they
are announced.

HELPERS (6) :=FF The course will begin near the crosswalk between the Em=
ployee
Center and NOC, running North past the Credit Union in one set of lanes =
and
then returning South back in the other set of lanes.=FF There is a modes=
t
incline in this course which will present a slim barrier to some of the
participants.=FF Helper-Units will be stationed to give just a slight as=
sist.

STAGERS (12) : Will ensure that participants are in place and ready at s=
tart
line when it is their turn.=FF Many of the races are time-trial events w=
here the
racers start off in one-minute intervals, others events will be clusters=
.=FF
There will be approximately 60 Special Olympics athletes participating
throughout the event.=FF Some participate in only one event, others in n=
early
every event.=FF Each athlete will have a name tag, with their first name=
,
attached to their back.=FF Additionally, each employee will have a photo=
 badge,
which Erin Clark has agreed to handle at the Visitors Center, as she did=
 last
year.

We will also be assisted at the event by our nine volunteer ham radio
operators, who were so valuable to us at last years event.

Linda Richie, Tom Bailey and their facilities team will be on hand provi=
ding
assistance as well.

Wanda Ward has agreed to sing the National Anthem at opening ceremonies.=

We hope this information gives you somewhat of an idea of what you will =
be
doing as a volunteer this year.

The Ft Worth Campus Diversity Council greatly appreciates your participa=
tion
in this very worthwhile event and your participation in enriching the
community in which we live. We look forward to joining you on April 27th=
.
