We have 1 BSEE/Physics student coop position available at the VLA
for Spring/Summer 2019. We've had great success in the past with
NMT students in this position, and hope to repeat the success.
The position is an excellent one for any EE or Physics
undergraduate student (Sophomore/Junior preferred) who
has an interest in RF, signals intercept, identification,
and analysis. I've been using the following detailed
description this year:
________________________________________________________________
Work at the world's most productive astronomical observatory, the Very
Large Array (VLA) radio observatory. Founded in 1956, the NRAO provides
state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities for use by the international
scientific community enabling forefront research into the universe at
radio wavelengths. In partnership with the scientific community, we also
train the next generation of scientists and engineers, and promote
astronomy to foster a more scientifically literate society. The National
Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) of Socorro, NM anticipates the need
for 1 Coop student during the spring and summer, 2019 semesters to
assist in the protection of the electromagnetic spectrum from VHF
through 50 GHz.
Duties include spectrum monitoring, signals acquisition and
identification, and RF, EMC power and shielding measurements in a RF
reverberation chamber, and the installation and checkout of VHF/UHF
receivers and antennas on VLA antenna support structures. The applicant
should have an interest in RF communications and signals analysis,
proficiency in handling large, lab-collected data sets in Excel
spreadsheets, C programming skills, www knowledge, good laboratory test
documentation skills, the ability to work independently, and an interest
in working a minimum of 40 hours/week at a remote site in the high
plains of west-central New Mexico. Follow-on appointments are encouraged
________________________________________________________________
Previous NMT student Coops in this position have gone on to
excellent jobs in the space and defense industries.
Thanks!
Sincerely;
-Mert
