We will also talk about a potential HF radio solution soon, and what the ideas with the Campus Police Chief for antennas were. For anybody interested in obtaining their radio license soon, we can go over questions, there is one in Belen on March 11th, and I will have a vehicle going up to Belen for anybody who thinks they are ready: http://www.arrl.org/exam_sessions/belen-nm-87002-6172-56 I found a simple 20-meter CW transmitter that we will look into, I think it is an unfinished kit that we can attempt to solder together. If we cant figure that out, I will go over the linux asterisk and app_rpt repeater code, and how to become a control op for the new repeater. Meetings will be at the usual place in the SAC at 7PM. Someone gave me some old giant cabinets with police repeaters that they just decommissioned due to FCC narrowbanding, came from up in Navajo County AZ and Gallup NM. So tonights meeting, we will be experimenting with the 150lb repeaters , see if we can program them and get them to operate on the ham bands or test the RF power amplifiers (they are either 100 or 300 WATTS!) They are Motorola MSR2000 and Motorola MSF5000 units, some repeaters one is a remote base. Hope to see you tonight 7PM @ the radio room in the SAC Skyler From skyler.fennell at student.nmt.edu Fri Mar 31 16:38:14 2017 From: skyler.fennell at student.nmt.edu (Skyler NMT) Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2017 14:38:14 -0600 Subject: [TARA] Meeting Tonight and NM QSO Party Message-ID: Hi Everyone, We will have the regular radio club meeting tonight at 7PM @ the SAC. Tonights discussion will be the New Mexico QSO party. This is a large event where people around the nation are attempting to contact New Mexico. It is a radio contest, but also a fun event to get experience on the Lower Frequency HF bands, and set up equipment. For the 2017 NM QSO party (Saturday April 8th) We are privileged to have permission to operate from South Baldy (Near the Magdalena Observatory), and it is just a small hike up from the gate where we will be operating portable. The club will provide some form of food, and will be looking forward to anyone who is willing to join. The event is officially from 8:00AM to 8:00PM, but that doesen't mean we will be there the whole time, I would like to start as early as possible in case there is some afternoon weather, so I will be driving up at 6:30 AM to setup and have room for 4 other people. I will see if I can arrange any other rides for those who want to head out later in the day. View this link below for more information about the event: http://www.newmexicoqsoparty.org/wp/ Hope to see you tonight and at the QSO party Saturday April 8th!. Skyler
