Hi,
you CAN have it all in one radio...just get the Icom or Yasue
mini-handhelds...with so-called 'extended' receive you can even
listen to standard FM broadcast band, some TV channels, the
weather broadcasts, some military traffic, ad nauseum...I have
both the 5 by Yaseu and the 8 by Icom...of course they include
VHF/UFH ham bands as core features with all kinds of bells
and whistles.
In transmitting FM or PM (phase modulation, a type of FM in which
the tuning of an amplifier stage is altered vice the tuning of an oscillator
stage as in 'true' FM), the absolute level of the audio must be controlled.
A pot or step-ware adjustment is available for that. The deviation, or
amount of shift above and below center frequency per applied audio can
be admusted, again by pot or step-ware. On your radio, locate the
minipot on the circuit board, the one tween the audio section and the
oscillator....turning it a bit clockwise will increase the deviation some.
Monitor your test transmissions on another receiver and adjust until you
have solid sounding audio...do NOT overdeviate as you will exceep the
passband of receivers and your signal will not be understandable. Some
repeaters have a lock-out to reject over-deviating signals...two of mine
do.
Gimme your ham call and I can send you more detailed information.
John
