I'm shouldn't be at the top of the list to answer this but....
Yes it can be driven with less that the 100-to-120 watts.
Yes it can be driven with a solid state transceiver but....As far as I can tell it's designed to have 12 volts and I don't know how much current to switch it
into transmit. So without changing anything in the amp you'd have to put a remote relay switched by the transceiver that will supply 12 volts to the amp.
I have a Swan 1200x and have done some reading on it but I haven't put it on the air yet. Also in the manual it says that there is a mod you can do to
set it up for other radios other than the Swan but since most of the newer radios can't handle much current on the "amp switching circuit" I figured it might
be simple just to feed it with switched 12v from an external source.
Now that all said, I'd be interested in hearing from others that have set this amp up for use with new radios too.
Thanks,
Mike KA7HBB

Subject: [Swan] Swan 1200W amp question
Hi All.
A friend of mine just aquired a Swan 1200W amp. I have a couple of questions about it. I'm not an amplifier user so I couldn't answer his questions.
1. Can it be used with a solid state radio (ie-IC706, TS140, FT840) ?
2. Can it be driven with less than the 100-120 watts the manual states without damage to the amp?
Thanks, 73
Gil/WA1LAD
