I did it years ago on my Galaxy III and Vs, by adding a 1N4001 power
rectifier inside the VFO. Since I was loath to drill a hole in the front
panel, I mounted the control inside the top since the top is hinged and you
can get to it very easily. I also built a solid state VOX and sidetone
which plugged into the Galaxy's board connector for that purpose. Having
the RIT inside the case was no real problem because all I really wanted was
to establish the required RX offset so when I tuned in someone at the same
pitch as the sidetone, I'd be fairly close to their frequency, like rigs
work today.

A friend tried doing the RIT mod to his dad's Swan 350 and also not wanting
to drill a hole, he made a plastic adapter with a thin shaft sticking
through an existing larger-than-normal hole in the side of the cover with a
knob. Worked fine but the lack of selectivity didn't help the radio much. I
had the filters from the Galaxy fanchey schmanchey receiver, I forget its
nomenclature, and installed them into my Galaxy V. The only way to switch
them was to use tiny relays, which ran off the mode switch. I never
finished that installation but did get it working as a prototype. Except
for the IF frequency, one should be able to do the same with a Swan.
