Hi All,

A previous post to a newsgroup noted that a hardcopy of the old version
(version 3.0) was recently sold for $105 on eBay. Unfortunately for
the buyer, that is an outmoded version - and to make matters much
worse, he grossly overpaid for an item that was distributed for the
cost of copying and mailing!

I probably have been remiss in not periodically posting that the newest
version (version 4.0) in PDF format on a CDROM is available for a
donation to charity and that the PDF file can be used to directly print
a hard copy.

So, to reiterate

Yes, the Swan Compendium, Rev. 4.0 is available, but it is only in PDF
format on a CDROM. All earlier versions (1.0 through 3.0) were
distributed in hard-copy book format at cost (or as it turned out
because of a number of factors, below cost).

Please note that distributing hard-copy versions becomes exceedingly
time consuming, especially since the post office required the copies of
the last version (3.0) I distributed to be mailed at the counter (as
opposed to just dropped in the box), because of security concerns.

Also, with almost a total of 320 pages in the latest version, printing
and binding in smaller batches becomes rather costly on a per issue
basis.

For these reason, the latest version (4.0) has been and will only be
distributed on CDROM, however, good copy facilities (such as Kinkos)
can made a copy directly from the PDF file - if you do that, make sure
you pay the extra cost for the better quality, heavy stock paper so
that visual bleed-thru from the double sided printing is avoided. Of
course, you can print directly from your computer, but with the cost of
ink-jet cartridges, it will not necessarily be cost effective.

In this case, I am distributing the Compendium for a tax deductible
donation of $25.00 payable by personal check made out to the Saint
Vincent de Paul Society, OLOV. The organization was selected because
the local chapter is all volunteer - literally all of the donated $$$
go to charitable needs (without regard to religion, etc., etc.). If
you would like to preview the index, please go to:

Note that COPYRIGHT RESTRICTION PROHIBIT copying and selling for a
profit, so copies of the version 4.0 should not appear on eBay or other
venues, other than those I periodically offer for a donation to
charity.
