The hum in the 700CX that I bought was NOT caused by the caps or the diodes
in my power supply!!! I replaced all of them and still had the HUM/ROAR. I
had no power to the filaments or panel lights either. I discovered that pin
6 on the rear plug of the 700CX had a problem. Sometimes it had continuity
but if I wiggled it it lost contact. It must be loose inside the can that
houses the connector! That is the ground pin. I connected a jumper between
the units and it worked (partly)! Can I get this can off and repair the
connection? The filaments and the panel lights fired up and the loud hum
went away! It's my guess that the hum was caused by the rig getting a ground
thru the speaker! Now all I get is a little noise from the rig! Maybe I need
to use a little Deoxit on the switches and controls??? The accessory plug
that the VFO works thru on the back had no Jumper when I got it. I jumpered
1 and 8! Is that right?
Can you give me a little help getting this rig running? I should have a
pretty good power supply now!
