Hi John,
Sure they did.
Probably about 400 to 600 of each version was made.
I have in front of me a Swan SS-200A that works
perfectly.
All three versions were the same basic rig.
The SS-15 had an internal 15 watt RF amplifer.
The SS-100 had the RF amp enclosed in a standard heat
sink bolted to the rear panel of the rig.
The SS-200 was the same but had 4 output trsnsistors
mounted on the final heat sink.
Perhaps the early production run had problems but I'm
impressed with the SS-200"A" version that I have. The
"A" is rated at 300 W PEP input, giving about 150
watts output key down in CW mode.
Per my manual, Swan offered to modify the earlier
SS-200 versions to the "A" spec for $75.
In many respects the design of these rigs was similar
to the vacuum tube 500C's, etc. They used the same IF
single conversion scheme.
BTW, they were basically the last rigs designed by
Swan before the buyout by Cubic Corporation.
The later Swan/Cubic Astro series rigs were designed
by Cubic's engineers. The later vacuum tube 700CX,
350D, etc. rigs were basically warmed over versions of
earlier designs.
