My apologies to the group, I switched to a new Apple computer
system/software and had though previous emails on this subject were
going directly to John. However, since the question has been asked:
As I had stated in the initial offer to distribute the latest update of
the Compendium, it represents a considerable amount of my work -
literally thousands of hours cumulatively (even more if I were to
include the 30 trips or so to the post office when the last edition was
mailed - because of security, packages over 1 lb. had to be mailed at
the counter). I had thought it would be a good idea and in the spirit
of amateur radio if the distribution could raise some money for
charity, akin to the donation of time (and out-of-pocket expenses) that
may amateurs routinely contribute during emergency services and other
community-related Ham activity.
The local SVdP Society Conference was chosen because I am familiar with
it to the extent to know that literally all money donated goes to
charity - there is no paid staff, fundraising costs, etc. They use
their donated funds to support those in need locally (of all religious
and ethnic affiliations) as well as sending funding to national and
international humanitarian/disaster efforts.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year,
Regards, Bob NB3W
