My experience is that even warm water can remove the tube markings at
times, usually not the tube type but the mfr's logo.  I'd wipe with a
soft cloth, if that doesn't do the trick its q-tip and warm
water/dishwater soap time and be careful.

73!  - Mark K9TR (happy new owner of a nos pair of 8950's for my 700CX,
no cleaning needed there - be nice to have this rig fired up, its set
with soft finals for close to two years).
