I recently became the owner of a Swan Mark 1 linear
that seems to work well.
A few questions for any other owners out there:
1. The original tubes used are 4-400Z's and there is
not enough cabinet height to use 3-500Z's. Is there a
work around such as lowering the tube sockets below
the chassis line?
If that is done, will cooling air for the base pin
seals be a problem?
2. The amp was designed when 1KW DC input was the
rule.
Swan suggested that CW be transmitted only while in
the tune/CW position, limiting high voltage to around
1500 volts. Can the transformer take sending CW in the
operating position (2500v)? Anyone know the current
rating of the transformer? Peter Dahl makes a
replacement that is rated at only .5 amps CCS.
3. What is the normal keydown output power while in
the operating mode? I'm getting around 900 Watts but I
am operating off of only 120 volts.
Any input appreciated....

Doug/WA1TUT
