I have just purchased a Swan 260 on E Bay. I have no real information
about this radio and the possibilities for improvement and would like to
have direction to sources. The unit I have is pretty beat up but the
owner says NOT DOA so at least it works...maybe.....#8-)

The reason I got it was that I am restoring an "antique" motor home and
this radio is of a vintage that it might have been an add on to the 1967
UltraVan a couple of years after purchase. I didn't want a "rice box"
that would definitely be out of character. I started looking for a
Collins S-Line for the motorhome but when I found one it was just too
nice to put into the motorhome.. and too big being two units. Then I
started looking at the Heathkit 100, 101, and 102 series of
transceivers. But then I found the Swan had more power and was much
cheaper on the used market. I already had a Swan 250 so the addition of
a 260 seemed a reasonable course to go.

One of the first things that has to be done is the removal of the front
panel for a complete restoration ( really buggered up) and the second
will be the replacement of the Final which the PO says is weak. I have
found a source for the paint...same place as I get my Collins and
Johnson paint. Anyway, If anyone out there can help me with
suggestions for improvements...like maybe a DSB Mod or an AM mod or any
receiver improvements, I would sure like to hear about them.
