Hello Swan fans,
I am pleasantly surprised by the response to my last post.
I thought for sure that I would be flamed!!
Thanks to all who checked in and left a little info on their gear.
My name is Rene Morris and my call is WR6MTR.
I love 6 meters (can you tell by my call?) and have quite a bit of gear =
for this band.
This includes 3 Swan 250's and 2 250C's.
Some work and some are being worked on.
I fire them up once in a while to keep them going and to
have some fun on 6 with older gear.
I am amazed that anyone could ever use one of these rigs
mobile, with the drifty VFO and touchy Car. Bal. etc.
I'm sure it was quite a challenge.
It makes me really appreciate my newer rigs (IC-756PRO, FT-736, TS-600 =
etc.)
I do have a couple of questions for the group... Does anyone have a =
source for the 6:1
dial drive? a couple of my 250's need new ones. I have tried to clean =
and re-lube
them but they are still "jumpy" and make tuning an SSB station almost =
impossible.
I would like to find new ones if possible, but good used units would be =
OK.
Also, I have done the mod that disconnects the "MHz" tuning cap and =
replaces it with a fixed S.M. cap.
This has greatly improved the stability of the VFO, but it could be =
better. Anybody got some
tricks that don't involve replacing the whole VFO?
Thanks and 73 to all,=20
Rene Morris
