Hi Dave & all,
The SS-16B indicates it has the encapsulated 5.5 MHz 16 crystal IF filter
installed (steeper filter skirts and higher theoretical out-of-band signal
rejection than the stock 8 crystal filter) - if you look at the filter it
should be about twice the height of the one installed in the 500C. If it
was factory installed it probably has a SS suffix appended to the serial
number, although it was offered as a kit so it might have been user
installed.
I think this was the first power supply model built by Swan. The 117AC was
the companion power supply for use with the 240 transceiver. It requires a
minor mod to the bias output if used with post 240 models, likewise all 117B
and later supplies (117C, 117X, etc.) should have a minor bias supply mod to
lower the voltage a bit.
240 SSB selector mod interesting in that I was also fortunate to pick up one
in the past in quite good condition and it also had the SSB selector
modification. I my case the mod was neatly installed with a toggle switch
installed on the bottom panel in the area beneath the Swan label, so that it
can be accessed from the front of the rig, with engraved/stamped OPP/NORM
lettering on the front lip of the panel. Do not see the switch in your
picture, so suspect in your case it's on the rear apron.
