[Swan] Mic matching for hi-Z

FWIW, Radio Shack sells a relatively inexpensive in-line audio matching
transformer that fits phone plugs, and converts 300 ohms balanced on one
side to 30K unbalanced on the other side. It's about 4" long and 3/4" in
diameter. I have a couple and have used one on a Shure SM-58 stage/vocal mic
(150 ohm balanced audio) into my Johnson Valiant (hi-Z unbalanced audio). It
worked fine. If you need more than 30K (which would surprise me) it might
not solve the problem, in which case you would need a small line matching
transformer. Shure also makes their version of the same thing, I have one of
theirs too but haven't tried it. Possibly the ultimate solution is the W2IHY
Equalizer/Noise Gate box, which has inputs for XLR balanced audio (plus
others) and outputs with switchable impedance, with an 8-band audio
equalizer and noise gate to boot. More expensive though. Mine works great, I
like it.
