Actually, I should amplify on what I said in the first message.
With I. L. Eletronnica, I used the two web pages to work my way through
the Italian, (which is a language I have never dealt with, a bit of
latin in high school, but no Italian!). They would take a credit card,
which made the order easier. I then didn't get the package for a while,
so went back to the website (and to the translation site), and asked
about delivery. Got an email back in English (slightly fractured, but
still very understandable) from a Angelina, who needed clarification on
the shipping address. When I answered her, I also suggested that there
might be other people here in the US who might be interested in ordering
from them, and suggested they might want to work on an English version
of their webpage. She agreed, so maybe that's in the works.
With the Korean firm, I found the site, then emailed them. They answered
in fractured English as well, a Charles Kim and I have been emailing
back and forth. Their parts were cheaper, but they couldn't work with
credit cards. A bit of research found that US Postal International Money
Orders couldn't be issued to South Korea (Apparently, we can sell them
arms, and buy their junque, but can't do money orders!). The bank would
wire funds, but charged $45.00 for the service. Since my total order
came to 66.00, it seemed a bit high, so finally I went to Western Union,
they could do it for 18.00.
The parts I was after were the 100 channel memory module for the 5718,
CMU-182. Elettronica had them for about 45.00, Seoul Telecom for 25.00
each. I have finally received one from Elettronica, still waiting on the
two from Seoul Telecom.
Hopefully your experiences will be better!
David, KD4CLJ
P.S. Still needing a schematic for the 5718. Anyone have one they can
scan and send?
