The normal "buzz" of the signal cannot be seen or heard under the digital transmission. That leads me to believe that the typical "buzzer" signal has been shut off while this transmission is taking place (which, in turn, leads me to believe that this is not jamming or interference, but a purposeful transmission of some sort). The digital signal being transmitted kind of, sort of resembles a STANAG 4285 signal in some aspects, but not wholly. Perhaps a STANAG variant? Date and time visible on the UTC widget running at top right of video screen. The Ukrainians hate the Soviet Union. It's a mixture of artsy conspiracy theory and anti-soviet documentary with a few min of Woodpecker quasi technical info mixed in. The photos of the antenna array (from which Chernobyl is visible) are staggering. It's all been left to rot (and apparently climb). The Ukrainians hate the Soviet Union. The premise of the movie is, the Woodpecker , which was enormously expensive (2x the cost of the Chernobyl nuke facility) never worked. In order to cover up this failure, Chernobyl was purposely melted down. Plausible, but a real reach. It could have been shorter than it was (I missed the point of the scenes of the main character randomly wrapped in Saran Wrap holding a torch. This probably explains why I became an engineer not an art major) . On the other hand, it's certainly the only video you'll likely see of the Chernobyl nuke site taken from the top of the Woodpecker antenna array. Oh, and the Ukrainians hate the Soviet Union. As you mention , there seems a legacy of distrust and animosity. No need to create a massive disaster by melting down a nuclear reactor, thereby being even more of an embarrassment to the Soviet Union than a non-working OTH radar system that few people even knew about. Not to mention that the radar must have worked to a certain extent, seeing as how it was in use for years. -- Tom Sevart N2UHC St. Paul, KS --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus From labyrinththirteen at gmail.com Tue Mar 12 12:14:58 2019 From: labyrinththirteen at gmail.com (Curt Rowlett) Date: Tue, 12 Mar 2019 09:14:58 -0700 Subject: [Spooks] 10 minutes of the "Indonesian Chanters" at 7000 kHz in LSB mode Message-ID: I've been following a thread on the HF Underground message board about the radio oddity known as the "Indonesian Chanters." I finally was able to catch a transmission today via a KiwiSDR located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Very strange stuff! Video recording here: https://youtu.be/ypyxzLlkxKE Several people have suggested that this is some kind of local game being played by Indonesian villagers with transceivers. It occurs almost nightly, starting around 1400 UTC and lasting for hours. The signal comes in best using the Jakarta, Indonesia KiwiSDR.? When I was sailing with the Merchant Marine, I visited Indonesia several times. There was a type of local liquor there that was distilled from palm toddy. After a few glasses, I sounded a bit like this, myself, then remembered nothing more. I'm not saying that is what is happening here, just kind of throwing the fact out there. I hear it here in WNY with a pair of phased 40M verticals. I also tracked it down with a web sdr in Singapore. It is also being heard by members of the IARU Intruder watch group in Europe. I have heard it refered to as Village radio in YB land.
