Never used to hear much utility traffic in LSB in the past. I hear a lot of traffic & voice in LSB now.

USB used to be preferred from my listening experience.

Is there any reason for the movement to LSB, or is it no big deal.

Rarely is propagation a long-term problem extending over several days so as
Todd mentioned re transmission of the message on the next scheduled
transmission usually handles the issue. Recent Geomagnetic storms in
previous weeks were a problem in portions of the HF spectrum but had
cleared to a workable degree within 48 hours max.

Strongs signal but an operator who wasn't very much in shape. After the FSK
callup sequence he started with a wrong message in FSK 50/129: 710 49 =

I'm working on an automated number station recorder based on the Twente SDR
and Priyom calendar.

If anyone is interested all the daily recordings will be available at
https://recordara.olx22.com/storage
Storage is limited but it should last for at least 1 year of history.

There are couple of bugs i'm still working on (broken CW recording for
now), but it works great for some of the more common stations :-)

Maybe it will be useful for someone. Feedback appreciated, thanks.

Does anyone know what this station is? I have caught this today at 1642z on
6838USB, already in progress. The voice seems automated, unknown language,
probably reciting numbers.

Does anyone know what this station is? I have caught this today at 1642z on
6838USB, already in progress. The voice seems automated, unknown language,
probably reciting numbers.

During the time (~ 3 full years) I have been monitoring HM01 (as actively as possible, considering my lack of decent equipment), I have never heard of any use of a .rfc file to transmit ANY data. I have seen text files (that usually consist of two bits [AKA one byte's worth] of hexadecimal code [per PY4ZBZ, AKA Roland -- the guy who invented the now basically obsolete DIGTRX format that HM01 allegedly uses]) which, from what I've seen of it, doesn't make obvious sense when printed up.

That got me to check on this .rfc file -- and this is what I found (so far):

RPF - Transit Flying Chart - 1	\
*..f11, \*.f12, \*.f13, \*.f14, \*.f15, \*.f16, \*.f17, \*.f18, \*.f19, \*.f1a, \*.f1b, \{*.f1c}, \*.f1d, \*.f1e, \*.f1f, \*.f1g, \*.f1h, \*.f1j

>From the myriad definitions for RPF, this one seems to make the most sense: 
Raster Product Format, a series of GIS file formats used in digital mapping

I don't know how much of a 'map' you can have in 296 bytes, but it appears that this may indicate that SOMETHING is being mapped (from the air?) -- but WHAT?????

P S One other thing I just noticed:

53788 = 4606 /  5378.TXT = 295 bytes
63305 = 0004 /  6330.TXT = Unknown
66318 = 5081 /  6631.F1C = 296 bytes
33414 = 1512 /  3341.TXT = 953 bytes
41469 = 7213 /  4146.TXT = 941 bytes

Omitting the file size for a moment, it seems that the file NAMES mean SOMETHING (what exactly, I can NOT tell you, but perhaps it involves something as simple as the infamous "Montes cypher" [as in Ana] in which each two position code of numbers translates to a specific letter). I don't expect it to be the SAME "Montes cypher" (but it would be a hoot if it was), but something in that format (see https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/stories/2008/september/montes_091209 for what I mean).  

The first half of the file name would, perhaps, be two bits of this cypher, while the second half of the file name is the "base" of the 5 digit number sequence which can range from 0 (but usually from 1) to 9 (but often ends after 8). Thus it maybe possible that the last number (of which I have been known to obsess about when it will increase or not) means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in and of itself, but only the first four numbers mean anything (plus the other four which may be separately random generated (or not so random).

Does this make me the next "super spy"? Or just another crazy crank who's too dangerous for his own good? Until we meet again, I remain

Indeed a very strange station. However, while the sitar music was playing,
I tuned to Hong Kong remote on Globaltuners and I didn't receive anything.
The origin of the signal remains a mistery, as well as the numbers language.

the language of the 2nd transmission (with the Gong signal) is Swedish 
or Norwegian: "fem" (5), "fyra" (4), "otta" (8)... I remember back to a 
holiday trip with my family to Sweden in 1984. The language of the 1st 
one (with the sitar) is different.

Hi folks,

More transmissions from this station happenned today. Today it has been
found in progress on 6885 USB at 1656z. After the transmission, a piano
piece started playing for about ten seconds, then ending abruptly.

Some speculate that the language may be Japanese. ("nana" and "san" are 7
and 3 in Japanese). I stick to the Swedish language though.

A few minutes later, at 1722z, some distorted sirens could be heard, along

yes, I also think about pirates, especially because of the 2nd recording 
with the sirens. The piano piece in the 1st recording was a synthetic 
piano version of "Solveigs Song" from the "Peer Gynt Suite" no. 2 by 
Edward Greek, who was a Norwegian composer. The language was the same as 
in the first recording of yesterday, and yes, I also think it's 
Japanese. But the language of yesterday's 2nd recording was definitely 
Skandinavian origin.

thanks for the mail and the link to the Japanese numbers. Yes, I agree, 
they sound like the Sino Japanese numbers.

Interesting, that the numbers of Saturday's 2nd recording were in 
Norwegian, the language of the country, where Edward Grieg (of course 
with g at the end) was coming from, the composer of "Solveigs Song", 
which came as synthesized piano piece at the end of yesterday's last 
recording, again with numbers in Japanese.

Yes, pirates playing with text-to-speech programs is the most logic
explanation for now. We will see if the station broadcasts more stuff in
the future. I'll keep you informed.

Hello Lars,

thanks for the mail and the link to the Japanese numbers. Yes, I agree,
they sound like the Sino Japanese numbers.

Interesting, that the numbers of Saturday's 2nd recording were in
Norwegian, the language of the country, where Edward Grieg (of course with
g at the end) was coming from, the composer of "Solveigs Song", which came
as synthesized piano piece at the end of yesterday's last recording, again
with numbers in Japanese.

Since my last post i have listened to another of the linked recordings. I believe one is Swedish (or similar) the other is Thai (or similar). I say or similar as I am not familiar enough with Norwegian to discount that and there are some clear Thai numbers, e.g. Si = 4, neung =1, xxx-sip = Multiple 10 (yi-sip = 20) but i am not sure if Lao or other regional languages also have these words.

Yep, copied it too. 6400 kHz was very poor. 3250 was the best freq

Did HM02 go into hibernation? For the second day in a row no transmission
was heard on 6261 or 7351 kHz. Did anyone copy the station today?

Last year we didn't hear the station between 7 Oct and 12 March.
