[Spooks] Sorry about the newbie question

A nearby strike could induce a spark, but only it there is a path to ground. If it his your tree you would see some action.
Also, if a nearby strike occurs when your radio is on, it might destroy it, but pull the batteries out and let it sit for a few hours as it may only have gotten a static charge that confused it.
I had a dipole at 15 feet for 15 years at my dad's in California, and never had a problem.
