Or so it sounded. Well off of the dial on my "41 meter band" (perhaps as low as below 7000 kHz), I was hearing the following from 525 - 534 UT, 554 - 604 UT, and 623 - 634 UT earlier today (01/14/14):

Eight dots and one dash (multiple times) occasionally broken up by a nine dots and one dash transmission. What was odd was that if on the second dot there was an apparent "hand slip" -- as if this were being keyed by hand, that transmission would be a nine dot /one dash transmission. As a result, I don't believe that this was done by a human keyer, but a semi-random "tape loop" (since the interval between 9 dots / 1 dash was one time 14 units, another time two units, etc.

For the record, I calculated the average "typing speed" at 9 characters per 5 seconds (or 108 characters per minute). In terms of "wpm" this would be 36 wpm (for a three letter word) or 21.6 wpm (for a five letter word). I know virtually ZERO about Morse Code, so what is coming is mere speculation.

The 8 dots, one dash may mean S S U (3 + 3 + 2 + dash) or S H A (3 + 4+ 1 + dash) while the 9 dots, one dash may mean S S V (3 + 3 + 3 + dash) or S H U (3 + 4 + 2 + dash)-- or is it an 8 dot error message starting with the second dot?

Note that the tones did NOT sound like "beeps". May be similar to what was reported (at least with regards to frequency) at http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,11231.0.html, but did not appear to be a "ditter network" as described at http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,10533.0.html -- just the combinations (8 +1 or 9 +1) I described at the top. Note also that the sound was best heard when my antenna was pointed to the Northwest from my home in NYC (similar to the best sound for some of the Cuban frequencies -- not South towards Havana -- for some odd reason, especially on the infamous 25 meter band).

Does anyone have any idea what this was? The frequency may be WAY off, so it may not help as a key -- it maybe best to just use what I heard as a guide to figuring out what it was.
