Something's gotta pay the bills -- the Christian radio content is what
they prefer to air, but they sell airtime as well.
It's not unlike the paid programming in any other form of broadcast media.
When I worked with James Crystal Radio up the road in Pompano Beach,
all of the stations had paid programming blocks. WLVJ-AM, the
Christian station in the cluster, also has paid programming and also
hosts Ken Held's Doo-Wop Shop on Sundays. I dunno where Held's show is
produced but it comes in live via ISDN. When I was board op on Sunday
mornings, I made it a habit to make sure that the last guy doing a
live program in WLVJ's studio left the faders set right -- I never
understood why the guy before never got complaints if his peak level
was like -15dBfs, but if Ken's show was in the mud, he would call my
cell phone and tell me to fix it before his listeners started to get
mad. :D
I never did get to see the transmitter sites used there... One of them
is GIGANTIC and is not too far down the road from WYFR, I guess.

I listen on occasion and find some of the programming quite interesting...Even the bombastic Alex Jones who I dont always agree with is often ahead of the curve in terms of social awareness, for good or bad he is even drifting into the main stream.
