Hi All,
I've been spending some time over the winter listening for the little
CW NDB's around 4 MHz. The ones I've been able to hear regularly here in
Urbana, IL are:
"W" on 4078.2 kHz
"MO" on 4077.4 kHz
Temperature beacon "TMP XX" on 4079.6 kHz
The best times for these here have been a couple hours before sunrise.
This morning at about 1100Z I heard the "MO" beacon on 4077.25. It seemed it
had slipped downward in frequency a little bit. Also heard the "W" and
temperature beacons as noted above but all were very weak and in and out of
the noise.
The surprising beacon of the morning was the "KX" beacon on 4097.40 kHz. I
have never heard it before but this morning it was loud - ranging from S5 to
S7. It sent "KX" nine times followed by "TEMP IN F 29 29 29 TEMP OUT F 29
29 29". Cycle lasted a little over a minute. I could still hear it at 1330Z,
well after sunrise, but in and out of the noise then.
Does anyone know where the KX beacon is located (approximately)?
73, Zack W9SZ
