After spending 3 years in the Philippines with a /DU3 at the end of my  
callsign I had nearly 3000 contacts, about 25% of which were from communist bloc  
countries.  When I arrived at my 3rd duty station what was known then  as 
Offutt Giant Talk, my mail had been routed from the PI to the stations  "general 
delivery" address.  Most of it was given to me on my arrival in  the Orderly 
room; however, there were 20-30 envelopes and cards that were  to be picked up 
from the site commanders office with a note that  he wanted have  "chat" for a 
few minutes when I signed  in.  Once I explained ham radio to him he was a 
little more receptive  to my mail.
