I copied another long message from this unid CW station today at 1600Z, same
long numbers, pause after every 10 groups. This time I copied 419 groups
before the CW stopped in the middle of the 420th group. The carrier went
off a short time later.
I and a couple other monitors were listening to the frequency at around 1545
when the carrier was on, and we heard a definite Windows sound effect, as if
they were starting up the computer to get ready to send the CW. At around
1551 the first ten & a half groups were sent, apparently as an audio test,
then quiet until the message started at 1600.
I don't know if it's connected with the Cuban V2/M8 or not, but appears to
be a completely different operation. The Cubans aren't noted for using long
numbers, and when they send the M8 stations they are always in regular CW,
not modulated CW.
Looking at what I copied today, and what I copied yesterday, I'd say it's
the same message though some of the groups are different. I don't know if
those are copying errors due to the bad fading I have on the station or if
they are different groups. I tend to think that it is the same message and
they are copy errors.
