We were *very* surprised by the attention it garnered. Quite
honestly, we originally intended to run this as sort of a thank-you
experiment for the spooks list - basically, our way of saying, 'hey,
we like numbers stations too, just wanted you guys to have something
fun to fool with for a while, hope you enjoyed it'.
It's funny you mention viral marketing; a couple of people said
basically the same thing earlier and while I agree with you (and them)
that this certainly would make someone looking to promote their
product giddy with the exposure it got, at the same time this would
likely be a really poor way of doing it. After all, you want your ad
to get as many eyeballs as possible onto it - but if it has to be
decrypted first, that puts up a pretty serious barrier to entry to the
vast majority of your audience.

Actually, there is a fraulein :) Check the project evil site over the
next few days: we're redoing the run of shirts we'd printed up for
Defcon, and should have them up on the site shortly. She's pretty
prominently featured.
Cheers,
- skroo.
