Hi Jason in south east Texas Intruments,
I think you're our man :-)
I guess you have no DF equipment, am i right ?
Otherwise you would already have given a bearing.
If you dont want to slaughter a cheap radio to get the ferrite antenna, the
variable C, a mosfet and a few other parts to modify it as a simple Short
wave DF antenna, check the website of the International Broadcasting bureau
at http://www.ibb.gov/antenna.html
There is a Tip to get rid of interference, a kind of super cheap directional
antenna. This seems to be the right to get U.S. broadcasts to the targets
everywhere, maybe this is enough to make rough guesses at the direction of
unknown signals :-)
Shouldnt we all try to get some very very small directional antennas ?
About DSB: Well, just very few amateur radios can DSB, and very very few of
them can be computer controlled. But you can modify a amateur radio easily,
if you remove the SSB filter and replace it by a R-C-combination you are
close to it. But why ? :-) DSB is less efficient than ESB but needs correct
frequency tuning, opposed to "suitable for every fool" AM.
