I usually use FFTDSP 4.2 by AF9Y.  It runs nicely on a P2-266 MHz 
in my shack, with audio out from the receiver going to the sound 
card line input.  Always use CW or SSB mode on the receiver, so 
what you see on the spectrum analyzer is a translated sub-band 
(up to 2.4 kHz wide) of the RF received by the receiver.  Check 
out some other software at 
http://www.storm.ca/~iarumsr2/fftsw.html .   They all work pretty 
well and you can see the most amazing things.
