Over loading your juice will do many things to a radio. One being it will  
overload the capacitors on your power in section of your circuit and another  
would be to overload the resisters on your floating ground.  Once I  built a 
"pest repeller" and put the main power regulator cap in backwards. The  power 
built up until it popped sending a low hertz signal through the piazo  speaker 
that gave me the sensation of being hit in the face with a lead  pipe.
