Right! Right! -

Thrilled as kid to tune in LORAN A sigs on my Nova-Tech Pilot II receiver -
still use several - and hear the phased sound of rising and falling pitch.
Remember how people would state, with great authority, 'Oh, that's an
airplane'??
Recall well the RAYDIST signals on top band, these had the eeerie sound
of moaning slowly changing in pitch. Looked at 'em on Polarad Spectrum Analyzer
while working at US NAVRADSTA (T), Beavertail Point, RI in early Seventies.
You saw two sidebands about a carrier, one rose as the other fell, if recall
correctly, as the pitch shifted. Supposedly, these were located around Delaware
and Chesapeake Bays.
DECCA Hi-Fix site on south tip of Beavertail point active into early
90's, located next to old 'dummy home', concrete bunker disguised as farmhouse,
used by Naval Reserves as coastal radar facility, into the Seventies.
What fun. Regret not taping the sounds of these signals.

Regrettably,
