It seems quite a few hams start tuning around out of the ham bands and 
find a whole new world.  Some of us were SWL's before we got our licenses.  
In any case, some of us stumble across numbers stations and get very 
interested.

I have a Kenwood TS-850 transceiver, which is a bit old but still 
considered one of the finest pieces of ham gear made. I think it's one of 
the best deals for the money for a piece of used equipment.  The general 
coverage receiver is superb.  It covers 30 kHz - 30 MHz.
