Even by ear, the idler repeats the same sequence over and over.  I was just
in a casino, and it's still uncanny how a couple of the slot machines sound
like this station.  While I was losing my money, I did some "analysis" on
the noises the machines were making, and what it's doing is playing a
different note for each symbol that passes under the payline while the
wheels are turning.  Hence, the repetition, since the wheels rotate several
times, and there about as many different symbols as tones in XSL's
modulation.

It's been pretty well proven that this one comes from Japan, where there are
also short-range, part-time stations with signals we don't hear anywhere
else.  There are something like 13 frequencies heard there.  This would be a
good one to check out with DX Tuner.
