The movie referred to with John Travolta is "Phenomenon". I would say the 
black gentleman's character suffered more from "terminal shyness" than being 
a "pathetic loser", his technical interest is his escape so to speak. I find 
it curious that the nasty pejorative "pathetic loser" is used mainly by 
women. It would be appear to be used quite often when some male independent 
thinker doesnt tow the feminist part line........(-:
