[Spooks] Numbers station sighting in Vanilla Sky???

Hi everyone,

Last week I went to see the new Tom Cruise movie,
Vanilla Sky. I think I might have heard, of all
things, a recording of our venerable Lincolnshire
Poacher in this movie! This has to be one of the most
obscure references I've ever seen in a mainstream
film, and was hoping someone else on this list might
have seen it. Can you either confirm my sighting, or
tell me I'm crazy??

Vanilla Sky is a psychological thriller, and there are
several scenes where Tom Cruise's character has some
"freak-out" episodes -- he thinks he is going mad, and
isn't sure what's real and what isn't. During these
episodes, his mental state is illustrated for us (the
audience) by a cacophony of incomprehensible noise:
horns honking, people shouting, etc.

During one of these episodes, I heard something odd in
the midst of the noise: the hollow-sounding,
emotionless drone of a human voice reading an endless
series of numbers. I thought to myself: "That's
funny, that sounds a lot like a numbers station."

Then, near the end of the movie - in the scene where
Tom Cruise's character is strangling Cameron Diaz's, I
think - he has his last episode, and I heard numbers
AND that incredibly familiar, cheap-sounding, tinny,
electronically-generated melody of "The Lincolnshire
Poacher"! Of course, this only aroused my suspicions
of having a Numbers Station sighting even further!

So, dear readers, I ask: have any of you seen this
movie? Or maybe even be willing to go out and spend
$6 to tell me whether or not I'm crazy?? :-)

73,
dflex
