No - it works on my SP600 tube receiver and my new stuff. In fact with the 
SP600 it seems better - I just tried it - because you can vary the BFO and 
not the main tuning - I get that hollow-sounding heterdyning similar to 2662 
sig except not a smoothly swept - mainly because I have a hard time chewing 
gum and walking let alone tuning two knobs on two separate devices..
