Roger,

The first time I came across the 'everyone gets a certificate' nonsense
was in the mid-80s. Went on some IT course, and at the end we were all
presented with an elaborately made "certificate of attendance".

That was the first time I realised that the world had taken an off-ramp
and I'd missed it.

I can relate to the main character in the Robert Heinlein book "A
stranger in a strange land". I just don't understand modern values,
ethics, or behaviour.

I guess I'm old too.
