[SOC] Finally let in

Hi all,

Deepak VU2CDP here.

Thank you Bob N4BP for taking me off the secret QRX list and granting me
#1302. I don't know who my sponsors are but someday when I am able to copy
their calls correctly I will send them a thank you note.

A little bit about me. I was licenced in 2003 and took to CW to work DX.
Too bad FT8 wasn't around then else you would've been spared this email. I
have been privileged to find a seat on a few expeditions as a CW op (or at
least I thought that was the case). I was told later that being under 40
means you bring other skill-sets to the table like keeping the coffee pot
warm, hauling the heavy stuff in the sun and fixing computer crashes for
the real ops. I know the drill now.

I have also done a few contests as a hired gun and enjoyed operating in the
company of those highly skilled among us. But operating Top Band from A4
during CQWW at 2pm local is a qualification not many have earned for their
SOC membership. Ain't I lucky?

I have been off-air for the past few months due to work and family
responsibilities but hope to be back before Cycle 25 peaks so that I can
add to my 10 & 12m totals. I think my CW skills would have rusted enough by
then to retain my SOC membership; they were terrible enough to begin with
anyway. So terrible that the local lore here in zone 22 goes  "QSD?"
translates to "Is that Deepak on the key?"   "QSD!" ...Indeed, it is he!
