Nice stuff.
My comment about being more power with MCW with modulation was in regards
to peak power. Say 500 watts of CW when fully modulated becomes four times
that at peaks or 2,000 watts. I was unaware of the 80% modulation rule, I
just adjusted until I heard a wee bit of distortion and backed it down so
it sounded clean but loud, no doubt around 98% modulation.
I don't have the modern A1 marine channels available easily, but it's
interesting that you say they're spaced so that A2 will fit.
USA HF marine transmitters other than lifeboat transmitters only had CW,
lifeboat transceivers had A2 transmitters, A1/A2 receivers.
Canadian and UK amateurs can use A2 on HF, USA prohibits it on HF.
