It's horribly wide and intrusive!
It's about as wide as a SSB signal.
About 1.2 kHz wide.
It sounds like three carriers, say tones of 400, 800 and 1200 Hz all
sending the same pulses of Morse.

MCW sounds so wonderful. A great loss that they banned it on amateur HF.
It’s no more intrusive than a regular AM signal. No need for 2400 watts.
Most LF beacons run 25 watts of MCW and you can copy them from hundreds of
miles away sometimes.

FCC rules forbid it below 50.1 MHz. Canada permits it as does the
United Kingdom.
Ships used it to attract attention during SOS as it is very wide. A
600 watt CW signal becomes a 2,400 watt PEP tone modulated signal when
A2 is turned on.

I love MCW. There are people who claim it is no longer legal but there has
never been a test of that. It is still in use by LF Beacons, VHF users
occasionally. I think it sounds GREAt for CW on HF due to that nice
noise-blanking Carrier!!

MCW (Modulated Continuous Wave Modulation) is a perfect SOC term because
it uses "modulation" so perfectly. Just think, we could say things like
"modulated by modulated continuous wave modulation" whenever we like.
The next time I check the frequency for occupancy a couple of times
("QRL? QRL?") and get no reply, then call CQ only to be called an ".- ...
..." by some FOC operator for using his personal frequency I'm going to ask
if he would mind if I call CQ again a few times using a rig "modulated by
modulated continuous wave modulation" and repeat the question just to make
sure it is fully understood.
