Hi all,

This one has been received two days ago, sent to the Secretary Office but I
guess it will be of no harm sharing it with the whole SOC mob.

Enjoy!

Hi unknown (I hope we are on first name terms here)

I never thought that I would be accepted for membership, I would like to
thank everyone associated with SOC. And I would like to thank my family, my
friends, my mom at home, and my dad who I hope is watching somewhere. I
would like to say thank you. Thank you very much.

(not a dry eye in the house)

Introduction:

I am 63 years old, born in the United Kingdom but live since 1976 in
Germany, I have been trying to learn the Morse code language the wrong way
(I still hear "Dog Did It" for D and "Ich Liebe Dich" for L) for about 10
years, I then took the CW academy course and have improved with their help,
I got my license in 1986, I am not contester but will give away some points
if needed, 15 WPM is the speed I am comfortable with but still have
difficulty head copying, instant recognition of the letters has always been
my problem and I listen to all letters and numbers every day on the train
to work and back at 30 WPM.

I am and always will be a QRPer and a straight key guy and enjoy portable
ops when the weather in not too cold, I also enjoy building and using
unusual antenna, I once made a dipole from wool soaked in brine for 30m and
had some contact on WSPR with 200mW with this setup in our attic and also
had a lot of success with the Hairspray can ant and homebuilt TRX kit (The
Fivehead) running 1.5 watts (SSB)

I am mostly on the WARC bands with my FT 817 and also a keen kit builder
such as Pixie 40m, QCX 5w TRX 60m, TxRx ensemble, MKARS 80, The Fivehead
40m, rockmiteII 20m and some test equipment.

I hope this will do as an introduction.
