12 12 12 12 35 35 =48+70=118 (i think, this is soc isn't it?) 35L6 and 35Z5 i dont know where this guy got these non hacked into 1940s radios (HQ129/S38) but other than changing the old caps out and putting in a polarized line cord the S38 will stand as it is. the 129 will take a bit more time - something wrong with the BFO???? i made a foolish (soc like decision?) thinking i was going to die soon, and a few years ago stopped actively radio contesting. spending time on the internet looking at health blogs and realizing getting old is a fight, not something to lie down peaceably adn accept mike w7dra i

Mike is correct; the S38 (no suffix) has 6 tubes. The additional bulb functions as the BFO. FWIW, the series heater string adds up to 120VAC.

Hi Curt and all ...
The S38 has 5 tubes, the filaments added in series came out to about 110 volts so no transformer was needed. I nearly got electrocuted once with a 5 tube ac/dc radio.
