I fully second the comments made about the misguided action of the ARRL 
in promoting the FCC decision to let the digie mode signals into the CW 
exclusive segments of the bands particularly the non WARC bands. Also 
the concentration on "internet" linked kit. Once you take the chance 
factor out of HF radio you have more or less reduced it to the level as 
dialing up your other party on a telephone. Not much of the ham radio 
ethos from the late 1940s ,50s and early 1960s left now among the new 
breed of young appliance operators "so called hams" with their digi 
boxes. The view from the other side of the Atlantic is very similar with 
the RSGB bemoaning in it's monthly journal RadCom the low usage of VHF 
and UHF bands and the number level of contacts. Observation here showed 
large parts of the bands are full of  nothing but "Digital QRM" on the 
bands.  However  MCW (A2A) has an ability to cut through both QRM far 
beyond the carrier power employed.
