Yeah, Mike, what's the deal with contests where you have to give a serial
number? I only barge in a few times, so I'm giving 003 when theyt are
already at 1438. They come back "NR? NR?" two or three times in disbelief
that someone would raid their party just to see if his Drake TR3 was still
getting out.

Old Man Drake, not being a CW guy, didn't put a sidetone on that rig, so
it's always a good question whether I'm just QLF or blatantly interfering
with the true purpose of Ham Radio, which is to see how quickly a computer
can log a perform the functions once entrusted to licensed amateurs.

Can't someone come up with a Prosign, say, "NC," that conveys the message,
"Hey, OM, some of us are still interested in using these frequencies to
refine our antennas, perfect our fists, test our QRP homebrew,or maybe even
(gasp) communicate." I'm tired of having to wait until 0000Z Monday on my
one weekend off a month before I can make a contact with a human being.
Guess it's time to invest in 30 meters.
