John,
The SOC Booth at Dayton could have a Wet T-Shirt Contest, too...to see who
could submit to the Judging Committee the grungiest old ham-related
(wet)(i.e., beer-soaked) t-shirt during the Dayton Hamvention. First Place
prize: department-store female mannequin to wear the "winning" wet t-shirt.
Second Place prize: a real female to wear the "winning" t-shirt. Pictures,
of course.you don't get to take home the real female. Mannequin, maybe. Or
an "inflatable doll?"
Also: a "crappiest code sent with a bug" contest. To win (?), at least one
OOTC (and SOC) member would have to copy most of what was sent by the
contestant. Endorsement stickers for remembering who you know/knew that
sends/sent CW most like the winning (?) entry.
Or a contest to see, from a standing start at the SOC Booth, who could be
the quickest to put together a working CW transmitter from parts gotten from
the flea-market people. Bonus points for it being on a piece of plywood with
fahnestock clips, sliding-scale for chirp (more chirp = higher points), etc.
More than one tube would be considered showing off and points would be
subtracted. Bonus points for inhaling lead-tin solder smoke during the
process. Offers from the ARRL kids' Let's Build Something area to show kids
how they could build one like yours would be considered a "SOC Youth
Recruiting" bonus, too.
Sooooooo...who's gonna be the sucker, er, um, volunteer to do this?
73,
Ray N6HE
