[SOC] W1SOC in FOC Bill Windle QSO Party

They are often misunderstood.  There are some within FOC who use it as an
elite but that never has been what FOC is about even though their numbers
were limited to 500.

But imagine the work mailing 500 newsletters all over the world is in the
days when you had to go to the printer's and he had to set type, print them
on a letterpress even an automatic letter press from hot type (cast lead
type slugs), lick stamps, insert QSL cards from other members - which meant
you had to sort them all, bring them to the letter box to post them as well
as write an editorial.

The limit of 500 was only because there is a limit to the amount of work an
individual can do.

SOC is unlimited in number but we don't have a monthly news-sheet with QSLs
from fellow SOC's.

My hat is off to former and current FOC secretaries.
