Adding a 5Y3 power supply to the rx and tx combo would probably approach
the footprint of an HW-16 anyway. Assuming you are using a metal chassis
and not a breadboard layout, try stacking the chassis one atop the other
with some angle iron. That should reduce the footprint.

Mike, the more I think about it, it's possible that when they said there
wasn't room to bring the HW-16 along, maybe they were suggesting that
there wasn't room to bring ANY ham gear along.
